Once again, graduating FST students have been given an opportunity to share with us some of their favorite memories of their time at Ohio State in this special edition newsletter. Many also took the opportunity to give a shoutout to those that supported them, befriended them, and helped make the journey one to remember.

Congratulations to all the students from the Department of Food Science and Technology who have graduated this semester. We are proud of all that you have accomplished and hope that you will stay connected. Come back to visit and be sure to meet up with us as we continue to engage in various professional food science forums around the world. Just remember, you’re a #BuckeyeForLife

Rolando Choriego Marin – It’s tough to choose just one memory from my journey at OSU—it’s all been great, challenging but rewarding. I’d like to highlight the moments when I’d get together with others and share a good time around food, from gatherings to potluck parties to the Thanksgiving lunches that were held in the department. When talking about grad school, it’s been great being at OSU advised by Dr. Jiménez and working alongside my lab mates. I got to learn so much about so many different aspects of dairy foods and meet so many people. It also was fun having my defense the same day with two other friends and all three of us had the same professors in our committees, it was thrilling day and we all successfully made it all the way through. Overall, I’m thankful for the experience from my master’s at OSU and everyone in the lab and the FST department who supported me through this journey. Go Bucks! Rolando received a master’s degree and was advised by Dr. Rafael Jimenez-Flores

Malek El Mir – It's hard to pick a favorite memory from my time at OSU. I truly enjoyed the whole journey of being a Buckeye. But if I had to choose one, it would be the simple and peaceful walks I took by Mirror Lake on my way home after a workout and the picnic I once had on campus with friends, such a blast! Malek received a master’s degree and was advised by Dr. Monica Giusti.
Chih Chun ‘Ariel’ Kuo – My favorite part at OSU: I’ve made so many great memories during my PhD at Ohio State. Some of my favorites include cheering at football games, enjoying the department’s Thanksgiving lunch, and watching the Homecoming parade. I also had a lot of fun playing badminton with friends at RPAC. I’m incredibly grateful to my advisor, Dr. Campanella, committee members, and lab mates for their guidance, support, and friendship throughout this journey. And of course, I couldn’t have done it without the love and encouragement from my family back home. Ariel received a PhD and was advised by Dr. Osvaldo Campanella.
Maria Sholola – I have a ton of wonderful memories at OSU! Some of my favorites included whenever there were opportunities to mingle with colleagues from FST such as the annual multicultural potluck. I enjoyed being involved with Citation Needed in FST, the Graduate Society of Nutritional Sciences, and the Black Grad & Prof Student Caucus. These extracurriculars gave me the opportunity to build relationships with many amazing individuals at OSU and to be involved in matters that I care about such as science communication and career development. I am also grateful for the opportunities I received to go to national conferences, allowing me to present my research to a range of scientists and build my network. Thank you to everyone at OSU and to all my friends and family who made this a fun and successful journey! Maria received a PhD and was advised by Dr. Jessica Cooperstone.
