Congratulations to Dr. Brian Waters on receiving a 2020 NACTA Educator Award. He will be recognized during the 2020 NACTA virtual conference.
Dr. Waters has been a lecturer in the Department of Food Science and Technology at Ohio State since 2013. He teaches both online and face to face. Classes taught include Chocolate Science, Wine and Beer in the Western Culture, Kitchen Science, Food Safety and Public Health, and Brewing Science. He created the online version of Chocolate Science and is currently developing a new class called “Outdoor Cooking.”

The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Fellow designation is an honor bestowed upon an IFT member by their peers to recognize exemplary professionalism in the field of food science. Two FST faculty were recognized during this year’s CFAES Virtual Awards Ceremony. The Office for Research and Graduate Education annually awards CFAES scientists who have made outstanding research contribution in the advancement of sciences and technologies relating to food, agriculture, family, and /or the environment. Congratulations to 2020 Senior Faculty Award recipient Dr. Monica Giusti and 2020 Innovator of the Year Award recipient Dr. Luis Rodriguez-Saona.

Congratulations to Senior Lecturer Dr. Mary Kay Pohlschneider who was recently honored with the Provost’s Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Lecturer. She was surprised during the department’s spring semester’s virtual graduation party for FST students. She received the honor from guests OSU Executive Vice President and Provost Dr. Bruce McPheron, Senior Vice Provost Dr. Kay Wolf, and CFAES Associate Dean for Faculty and Staff Affairs Dr. Tracy Kitchel.

The 67th annual CFAES Celebration of Students could not be held as planned April 9, but the accomplishments of the 2020 award recipients deserve recognition. Planning committee members created an electronic yearbook, titled A Snapshot in Time after the event’s theme.

The award honors top graduating seniors on the Ohio State Columbus campus who exemplify the CFAES mission in areas such as academics and scholarship, research and innovation, service and involvement, and influence and leadership.

Congratulations to Brittany Miles – 1st place and Yumin Yu 3rd place in FAES oral competition; Abbie Sommer – 2nd place and Danica Berry Honorable Mention in FAES poster competition; Maria Cotter – 2nd place in Social and Behavioral Sciences poster competition; Walaa Hussein – 3rd place in Biological Sciences oral competition.

COLUMBUS—The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) has announced four inaugural Distinguished Professors of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences.
The title was bestowed on a competitive basis to four full professors who have excelled in teaching, research, or outreach/engagement. In addition, their work has significantly impacted their fields, students, college, university, and/or the public.
