Congratulations to Senior Lecturer Dr. Mary Kay Pohlschneider who was recently honored with the Provost’s Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Lecturer. She was surprised during the department’s spring semester’s virtual graduation party for FST students. She received the honor from guests OSU Executive Vice President and Provost Dr. Bruce McPheron, Senior Vice Provost Dr. Kay Wolf, and CFAES Associate Dean for Faculty and Staff Affairs Dr. Tracy Kitchel.
The Provost’s Award is awarded annually to lecturers, senior lecturers, or other auxiliary faculty members for their teaching excellence.
As the senior member of the Food Science department lecturers, Dr. Pohlschneider has served as a mentor for the other lecturers for many years. Recently, she has led the way in creating a review process among the lecturers to assist them in their endeavors of continuous improvement in their teaching strategies.
In her nomination FST Department Chair Dr. Sheryl Barringer noted “Dr. Pohlschneider is an extraordinary teacher, both inside and outside the classroom. She cares about students and is unfailing in her efforts to help them achieve success. She has developed a reputation among students as an engaging, intellectually stimulating, challenging and compassionate teacher and advisor. Her courses are among the first to fill and students seek her out as a trusted advisor and mentor. Once students take one of her courses, they usually sign up for several more.”
Recipients are recognized with a $5,000 honorarium made possible by the Office of Academic Affairs.
