We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Martha Belury as Interim Chair of the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) Department of Food Science and Technology effective July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023. Dr. Belury earned her B.S. in Nutrition in 1987 and her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences in 1992 from the University of Texas, Austin. Dr. Martha Belury joined The Ohio State University as the Carol S. Kennedy Professor of Nutrition in the Department of Human Sciences in the College of Education and Human Ecology (EHE) in 2002. Dr. Belury is also faculty within the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, with joint appointments in Endocrinology in the Department of Internal Medicine and in Environmental Health Science in the College of Public Health. This coming year, she will be the President of the American Society for Nutrition.
Dr. Martha Belury has over 25 years of experience as a translational nutrition scientist working to identify the role of dietary fatty acids and bioactive polyphenols in inflammation and metabolism in human health and disease. Her research interests are investigating the mechanisms of bioactive lipids in regulating insulin sensitivity in liver, adipose and muscle; and the role of energy balance in cancer prevention.
As Interim Department Chair of Food Science and Technology, Dr. Belury will:
Support continued success and development of undergraduate and graduate education programs.
Represent the Department and promote collaborations with university partners and external stakeholders to increase state, national, and international presence.
Work with other department chairs and administrators to advance the vision and missions of the department in order to optimize resource needs of the department.
Administer, allocate, and manage fiscal and human resources in a complex organization with multiple locations, funding, and revenue streams.
