Undergraduate Scholarships- last updated January 2, 2007- Majors in the Department of Food Science and Technology, are eligible for a variety of scholarships. If your GPA is above 3.0, you are strongly encouraged to apply. Listed below are the scholarships that are available to undergraduates. These awards are typically given on top of any other awards you may earn.
Scholarship applications are due by March 1. (Word format) Henry and Blanche Abell Endowment Fund Established April 3, 1987, by Carl T. Abell in memory of his parents, in recognition of his first wife, Ruth D. Abell, and in honor of his wife, Sherry S. Abell. Distributions divided equally between the Department of Food Science and Technology and the wrestling program. Borden Foods Scholarship Fund in Food Science and Technology Established September 1, 1999, by Borden Foods Corporation, through The Foundation. Income supports scholarships for students enrolled in the Food Science and Technology program who have demonstrated leadership and show promise for future success in food science. Thomas P. and Patricia L. Brundige Food Science and Technology Program Fund Established February 6, 1998, by Patricia Brundige, family and friends in memory of Thomas Brundige. Income supports programs in the Department that involve technology advanced by Total Ultimate Foods. Income may also provide scholarships for students, in the Department, dedicated to the food industry profession, who provide leadership and excel in academics. Awardees must volunteer five hours per week for one quarter to Total Ultimate Foods. The Glenn Goltz Scholarship Fund Established July 7, 2000; used to support a full scholarship for an incoming freshman undergraduate student who is enrolled in FST. First preference given tot a student currently a member of or trying out for the OSU Marching Band. If the student maintains at least a 3.0 GPA, the scholarship can be renewable for up to four years. Should more than one qualify, the award is given to the student with the greatest financial need. If no incoming freshman is identified, it goes to someone already enrolled in the Department of FST. Ross/Abbott Laboratories Undergraduate Minority Endowment Scholarship Program Established March 1, 1991, with gifts from the Abbott Laboratories Fund. The income is for scholarships for undergraduate minority students with majors in Food Science and Technology. The Wilbur Waight Canaga Memorial Fund Established July 12, 1974, with a bequest from Ruth Regina Hale Canaga, in memory of her husband, Wilbur Waight Canaga. The income is for scholarships for deserving, intelligent students in the College of Agriculture or the College of Biological Sciences. Dayton Milk Foundation Fund Established September 7, 1954, by the Dayton Milk Foundation. Income supports scholarships, research and other purposes in dairy technology. George Harper Memorial Fund Established October 15, 1975, with gifts from Mary E. Harper, in memory of her husband, George L. Harper. The income is to provide scholarships for academically able food science and nutrition majors in the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Donald E Yingst Scholarship Established May 7, 1999 by Mr. Yingst through the foundation. The undergraduate recipient will have plans to work in the food industry in the US after graduation. The Richard Shroyer Leiss and Cheryl Evans Leiss Family Fund Established April 7, 2000, it supports students whose major study or research focus is human nutrition and food science in FST. The student must have financial need and have been a resident of Ohio for at least 10 years. Lynn F. Jennings Memorial Fund Established January 12, 1959, by gifts from family and friends of Lynn F. Jennings in his memory. Harry C. Moores Dairy Technology Centennial Scholarship Established March 5, 1971, with a gift from The Harry C. Moores Foundation, in honor and in memory of Harry C. Moores, co-founder of the Moores & Ross Milk Company and the M. & R. Dietetic Laboratories. The income is for scholarships for students with superior academic potential. NE Ohio Dairy Technology Society Scholarship Established July 19, 1947, by a gift from the Cleveland Dairy Technology Society. Ohio Dairy Boosters Association Scholarship Established January 21, 1947, by a gift from the Ohio Dairy Boosters Association. Wayne E. and Mildred K. Smith Endowment Fund Established June 4, 1976, by the Smiths. Income provides need-based scholarships for students and research in food systems. Robert B. Stoltz Dairy Technology Fund Established February 11, 1946, in honor of Robert B. Stoltz, by an anonymous gift. The income is for an annual prize to the outstanding student in the department. Robert B. Stoltz Memorial Fund Established March 14, 1949, by friends of Professor Stoltz. Income provides fellowships or scholarships. The Julie Ann Klein Award in Food Science and Nutrition Established May 5, 1983, with gifts in honor of Julie Ann Klein by her family. The income is for an award to a junior in the Department of Food Science and Technology, based on participation in extracurricular activities as well as scholastic achievement. Forbes Leadership Award and Scholarship Fund Established March 3, 1978, with gifts from The Benjamin P. Forbes Company through Benjamin F. Forbes, president. The income is for the Forbes Leadership Award to a senior in the Department of Food Science and Technology. Michael and Marilyn Mangino Food Science Scholarship Established 2007 with a gift from Mike and Marilyn Mangino. The income supports scholarships for undergraduate students with first preference to graduates of the Columbus Public Schools. Eloise B. Harper Scholarship Fund in Food Science and Technology Established 2006 by W. James Harper in memory of his wife, Eloise B. Harper. The income supports scholarships for undergraduate students to further the diversity mission of the university. First preference is to female students. Kenneth Beck Scholarship Fund for Food Science and Technology Established 2007 with gifts from Kenneth Beck (B.S. 1973, M.S. 1974) to provide undergraduate scholarships. Blackmore Family Food Science and Technology Scholarship Fund Established 2000 by Raymond J. Blackmore and Margaret Webb Blackmore to support undergraduate scholarships. Preference is for students who have graduated from Perry High School in Perry, OH. State Science Day Ohio State University Department of Food Science & Technology Award A single $12,000 award ($3000 per year, renewable for up to four years) is given to a high school junior or sophomore who presents research that addresses a food science relevant topic at the Ohio State Science Day. The awards are contingent upon enrollment in the Department of Food Science and Technology at The Ohio State University. FFA - Ohio State Food Science Awards Given to high school students who present research that addresses a food science relevant topic at the FFA Food Science & Technology Career Development Event. Awards are given for first ($3000), second ($2000), third ($1000), and fourth ($500) places. The awards are contingent upon enrollment in the Department of Food Science and Technology at The Ohio State University. |
