Key Issues:
  Review quotation from Clextral for $14,224.14 for extruder replacement parts.  Decision will be made early April to accept or not.
   
  Also, a quotation for $16,290.00 was received for installing a dedicated high-pressure steam line to FMC Steritort. 
 

 

Follow-up meeting with SFA now scheduled for sometime in March.
   
Signed an agreement with Euro Proteins for the use of labs for milk protein analysis and research.
   
Jane Erbe, Program Assistant, is on maternity leave until May, 2005.
   
Meetings/Visits / Outreach/Prospective Clients:
  Pilot Plant staff visits Ross Labs as part of FIC's outreach program.
 

   
  Refered prospective FIC Client for assistance on processing & labeling of various soups to FID
   
  Talked to owners of Werling & Sons, Inc. about  formulation issues associated with a spread type product they are developing.
 
BoD meeting held on 2/25 was poorly attended by members.  Meeting focused mainly on FIC Strategic Plan.

 

Client/Student/Class Activities:
  Food PP:

 - Students heavily used freeze dryer (soy powder), baking line (soy bread) and still retorts for research purposes.

 -Regular clients mostly used sterilization equipment.

 
  Dairy PP:

-210 Class used cheese making equipment & 610 Class used ice cream equipment, etc.

-Clients used Microthermics System and Mixing Kettles.

 

  FST 630 -Arranged for class to visit Ralston Food in Lancaster since PP extruder is out of commision.
 

Grant Application:

  FIC submitted to Mid American Food Processors Association a grant application for tomato reseach (2005).
 

General:

  There were12 Food Safety Hotline calls
   
  Received 39 BPCS registrations as well as 29 students signed up to take the class
 
  Maintenance & Repairs of utilities on equipment becoming more and more an issue particularly in the Food PP.
