The teaching and research programs of the Department of Plant Cellular and Molecular Biology at The Ohio State University focus on modern areas of experimental plant biology including plant cell and molecular biology, developmental biology, physiology, biochemistry, and biotechnology. Within the College of Biological Sciences, the Department of Plant and Cellular Molecular Biology is committed to providing the best possible classroom and research experiences for our students. The addition of two centers of excellence, the Arabidopsis Biological Resource Center and the Plant-Microbe Genomics Facility, facilitate our mission. The Plant-Microbe Genomics Facility uses DNA sequencing, real-time PCR, genotyping, microarrays, proteomics, and robotics to study genomes from DNA sequence to protein expression.
In addition, the Ohio Plant Biotechnology Consortium was formed to stimulate and facilitate the most effective and financially relevant research efforts among Ohio universities and other interested parties. The forestry, turf, landscape, and ornamental industries are multi-billion dollar industries and major agricultural initiatives in Ohio.
